Framework Programme
Targeting primarily the Lisbon
Agenda, the Seventh Framework Programme finances proje cts
for the promotion of European Research and Innovation. It is divided into
four strands of action, Ideas, Cooperation, Capacities and People.
The
Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme
For the financing of projects aimed at
increasing the competitiveness of European Enterprises. This funding
programme focuses on three pillars of competitiveness: Entreprenership and
Innovation, Energy, and Information and Communication Technology.

EUREKA
Programme
The EUREKA Programme focuses mainly on
market-oriented R&D initiatives. Projects can be either Individual
Projects, Umbrellas (thematic networks of public authorities and national
experts), or Clusters (long-term, strategically significant industrial
initiatives).

European
Investment Fund
For the development of European SME's through Venture Capital and
Guarantee Schemes.

Cohesion
Policy 1 - European Regional Development Fund
For Projects aimed at reducing regional disparities in income and
achieving the objectives of the European Cohesion Policy. Programming for
these funds is based on the Maltese Government's National Strategic
Reference Framework 2007 and highlighted in Operational Programme I -
Investing in Competitiveness for a Better Quality of Life. Priorities
include knowledge and innovation, tourism, transport, energy, water,
environment, and urban development, as well as effective adminisrative
capacity of public bodies.

Cohesion Policy 2
- European Social Fund
For Projects aimed at achieving the objectives
of European Cohesion Policy by promoting investment in human capital.
This objective is outlined in the Maltese Government's National Strategic
Reference Framework, while the Programming of this Fund is explained in
more detail in Operational Programme II - Empowering People for More Jobs,
and a Better Quality of Life. Priorities include education and skills,
employability and adaptibility of the workforce, equal and inclusive
labour market, and institutional and administrative capacity.

European Fisheries
Fund
This fund finances projects intended
to ensure the long-term future of fishing activities and the sustainable
use of fishery resources, reduce pressure
on stocks, promote the sustainable development of inland fishing; help
boost economically viable enterprises in the fisheries sector, foster the
protection of the environment and marine resources, encourage sustainable
development and improve the quality of life in areas with an active
fishing industry, and to promote equality between women and men active in
the fisheries sector.

European
Agricultural Fund for Rural Development
Funded under the Common Agricultural Policy
budget heading, this fund finances projects aimed at increasing the
competitiveness of agriculture and forestry, improving the environment and
countryside through land management projects and improving the quality of
life in rural areas and encouraging diversification of business activity.
